At the Feeder
The yardener can help these pretty birds make a comeback by offering suet, dried fruit, especially raisins, dried figs, currents, nutmeats, peanut hearts and baked goods. They are more likely to use a platform feeder situated at some distance from the house than a hanging feeder up close to the kitchen window.
Feeding In The Wild
All three species of bluebirds feed on the ground and low bushes where they can find an abundance of insect life and fruits they enjoy.
Bluebirds and Water
The young do not require water while on the nest because the insect bodies provide them with all their liquid needs. This is nearly true for the adults but the adult needs to supplement this form of receiving liquids, by having access to water the yardner provides all the birds. Again the birdbath needs to be out in the open and away from the house.
