Caterpillars eat holes in the leaves of almost any plant. The holes in the beginning will be in the middle of the leaf, but if the infestation is serious, the whole leaf may disappear. Sometimes the skeleton of the leaf is left and sometimes even it disappears. There are hundreds of caterpillars so there are very few plants that one time or another do not get attacked by a caterpillar.
Fortunately in most cases, the number of pest caterpillars is small and you don't even notice there is a problem.
