Question From: M. Galie - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: I have emerald green arborvitae bushes in my backyard. The bushes are about 20 years old and about 20-30 feet high. I have one bush that the green fern branches are falling off about a foot from the top. Each day it would go down several more inches/feet. Now the other part of the same bush is starting to lose branches. It has already gone down about 2 feet. All the green fern branches are falling to the ground. I filled 2 trash bags filled with the green fern branches. The branches look healthy and I can see no disease on them. I don't know what is happening to my bush but if this continues I will have no bush left. The other bushes have not been affected yet but I am afraid that if I don't stop it- I could lose all the 25 bushes that I have across the back of my property.
A: If these were my trees I would get an onsite inspection from a professional, a certified arborist ASAP, which I am not. To find a professional in your area go to www.tcia.org. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
