Q: I have an Ash that is about 22 years old in my back yard in Indianapolis. For the last 2 weeks or so, leaves have been dropping at every breeze. There is no discoloration or perforations to indicate a disease or pest in the leaves or the bark. Each one looks perfectly healthy all the way to the "socket" where it was attached to the tree. Not dry or discolored at all. It just looks like it popped off. After researching the signs of fungus or Ash Borers, I see no indication that either is involved. We had a drought last summer, but so far, this year is better than average rainfall for us. Could this be a delayed reaction to last years drought? Just worried because it is an awesome tree and we don't want to lose it. Thanks.
A: If you don't want to loose the tree I recommend you have a trained tree doctor, a certified arborist do an onsite inspection. The emerald ash borer is in your area and need professional help to save a mature tree. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
Q: So could this be drought related? As I said, we have no indication any pests or disease is involved and we live on Social Security Disability and cannot afford an arborist.
