Q: I am successfully growing parsley, thyme and basil indoors for the first time. I am noticing little black flying bugs and they seem to be from the thyme. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them? Thank you.

Sounds like fungus gnats. Cover the soil with a layer of chicken grit about a quarter of an inch thick. Sharp sand will also work. A soil drench of AzaMax will also work, but it's pricey. Happy Yardening Nancy.
