Q: My boxwoods are about 5 years old. They are stand alone, slow growing. They have grown about 2 feet since we put them in. The leaves are getting a popcorn effect on them. Is this right? Otherwise they look healthy, full and don't seem to have any discoloration. Do I need to do something with them?
A: Leaf distortion may be the results of psyllids feeding on the undersides of the plants. Take samples of the damage to an independent garden center or nursery that sells these plants for an accurate ID. Neem oil used according to package directions will control this insect.
