Question From: D. Martin - State College, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: We bought a house where they planted Cornelius dogwoods 65 years ago. They preferred a nature approach, and so little pruning was done. Now the dogwood and 2 forms of honeysuckle have taken over and rerooted themselves. Currently I have 4 large stumps and a large trees all within an 8 foot section of ground. Is there anyway to get rid of the rerooted dogwoods without killing the original tree? Cutting them down to the ground just bring more branches from the stump. I am concerned about doing anything too aggressive since it may kill the original tree.
A: I recommend you have a certified arborist do an onsite inspection. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
