Question From: P. Benvin - MICHIGAN
Q: My Coreopsis Sun Up won't grow at all this spring. I planted it two years ago in a memorial garden along with Salvia Caradonna and Gaillardia Mesa Bicolor and all have done well the past two years. This spring the Salvia is growing very well and the Gaillardia was slow to grow but is finally getting started, but the Coreopsis will not grow at all. Would the extreme winter have had anything to do with it?
A: Some varieties of coreopsis are hardier than others. This plant does not do well in soggy soil and wet weather in late winter and early spring may have done it in. Gaillardia is a short lived perennial and I treat it as an annual.
