Q: I have two fairly large Crepe Myrtle trees. I have pruned them for several years. This year I pruned them back. I cut the large limbs coming out of the trunk (top). They have not come back this year so far. The tree is producing new shoots from the base of the tree and some around the trunk area. Should I continue to wait or is there a cause for concern? Normally when I prune the trees, new shoots start coming out on the top. The limbs I cut are just kinda gray or black, looking dead. But the tree itself is shedding its bark and blooming in the other areas I mentioned.
