Question From: S. Thomas - Conroe, Texas, United States
Q: Hi, I have a pink Crepe Mertle. This year it started blooming. It is about 2 yrs. The blooms slowly died and the leaves are turning different colors, a little red, yellow, and orange and they are falling off of tree. I did have the base of the tree covered by mulch and just today I pulled the mulch back from base of tree and noticed white looking substance, more like a powder. I reside in Tx where it gets very hot, so I thought I was water it enough until I some times see the leaves looking wilted and then I give it more water. It is in a very open spot with so much sun. At the very top of the tree the leave are nice and look healthy with 4 blooms and this is on one branch. On the tree itself, you know, the bark, well starting from the bottom of the tree up, I've noticed some light white spots as well as light green spots that are circular in shape. I also have a Magnolia tree that is wonderful for the most part, although on some leave in the center of them they have medium brown spots....please help I don't want to lose my trees.
A: I am not a tree doctor and we don't grow crepe myrtles in Michigan. I recommend you get an on-site inspection from a trained tree doctor, a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and insert your zip code. Best Nancy
