Crepe Myrtle Have White Mildew And Their Leaves Have Begun Turning Bright Red

Question From: Carrollton, Texas, United States
Q: Hello-- I have recently added two crepe myrtles to three existing crepe myrtles at the front of my property. The two new crepe myrtles quickly developed white mildew, which we have been controlling by spraying affected areas with a mild mixture of dishwashing soap and water. Now these two crepe myrtles have suddenly begun to have some of their leaves turn bright red, which is very unsightly. Can you tell me what is the cause of this, and how I can treat it? Thanks so much.
