Question From: WASHINGTON
Q: A section of my Shasta Daisy has distorted growth at the top of the stem. The top is very, very curly, and tightly woven into itself (looks similar to a newly opening fern). This daisy appeared to be healthy one month ago and was very healthy and beautiful last year. Any ideas what is causing this? I can't seem to find information on the internet regarding this problem.
A: I think your daisies have a virus called aster yellows. It. will kill the plants so if you get a positive ID remove the plants, roots and all and throw them in the garbage. Take photos and samples of infected plants to an independent garden center or nursery that grows these plants for an accurate ID. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
