Question From: Milford, England, United Kingdom
Q: My new Daphne plant leaves have small holes and edges of leaves being eaten away, there are no signs of insects or anything?
A: My guess would be slugs and earwigs. Both feed at night. That said, my research says aphids and scale are the insects that usually go after daphne and neither make holes in the leaves are chew on the edges. Daphnes are not common here in Michigan (USA) so I have no experience with them. I suggest you take photos of the damage to a good independent garden center that sells these plants for a more accurate Id. Good Luck and Happy Yardening, Nancy
