Q: I have always loved the smell of Balsam Evergreens , and would like to plant some around my home . The local green houses do not carry them . Do they grow well in my area ( Algonac Mi. 48001 )
A: The tree you are in search of is a balsam fir ( *Abies balsamea). *They are hardy in Michigan but tend to drop needles in hot dry weather. A more popular selection would be a Concolor Fir.
