Question From: Corvallis, Oregon, United States
Q: This is a friendly test to see if these queries are reaching you. When do you direct so lettuce in your area or do you only use seedling you start indoors? Cheers, Rose Marie
A: These questions do indeed reach me. I take my queues on growing lettuce from my brother - the lettucemeister Larry Schultz of Metaorma, MI. He stands by the old addage, plant lettuce seeds when the soil can be worked. Jeff and I agreed several years ago that recommending planting seeds by weeks prior to frost free is no longer viable. It was 10 degrees below zero in my back yard last night. This has been one brutal winter. Worst ever. Hugs, Nancy and Happy Yardening.
