Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: Every year I make cuttings from my geraniums and have them root in the basement under fluorescent light. My hanging geranium cuttings are doing fine, sitting under special growlights. My zonal geranium cuttings are growing under a 4ft,8 tube lighting fixture with F32T8 tubes,2700 lumens,6500K color temp. The leaves are all a dark red color even the new growth. No green leaves. Please find an answer to this condition.Thank you
A: I'm not a lighting expert , so I cannot give you an educated answer for the issue. I recommend you take photos of the set up, the affected cuttings and specs you have provided, to a hydroponics store for advice. That's where I go when I need lighting help. However, l think the issue is stress. Could be to much water, Lack of phosphorus or cold temperatures.. They grow best at 65 degrees ..When temps drop the plants cannot take up phosphors and the leaves turn red. Get a thermometer that registers maximum and minimum temperatures, available at box boxes.
