Question From: Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada
Q: Hi Nancy. I recently got a beautiful clematis plant that I was told would do well as a house plant. After bringing it inside, the blossoms started to wilt, the leaves are turning yellow and dropping. I have looked for bumps on the stems and found none. I gave the plant some plant food and it didn't seem to help at all. This is the first time I have tried an indoor clematis and I really don't want to lose it because it is such a beautiful plant.
A: You can grow clematis indoors. They need lots of sun, rich well drained potting soil. A potting soil, such as Happy Frog would do well. Keep the soil moist but not sodden. Fertilize with a 10-10-10 fertilizer every two weeks at half the recommended rate. It is not unusual for plants to loose leaves when brought indoors. Just don't over water or fertilize it. You may need to get a special light-bulb for it, especially in winter. Good Luck, and Happy Yardening.
