Q: I live below Tampa Fl & really want to challenge growing Hollihocks. Have been sent seeds & wonder if i could plant them in a deep container & allternatly say put them in a very sunny window inside durring the hot months or do they need the up north very cold to survive, will try anything for the challenge .

I did a google search on growing Hollyhocks (Alcea) in Florida and got lots of hits that indicate yes you can. Thomson Morgan seeds has a variety called Majorette Mixed that is a half hardy annual and will bloom the first year. Queeny Purple is another. So do some googling for tips and have fun.
