Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: I have read there is a Canna Lily virus that is spreading. Is it safe to pirchase Canna for this years' planting season? Hopefull this is not as severe as the Impatiens situation
A: The Canna Virus hit several years ago. Most growers took the infected bulbs off the market and destroyed them. They have been able to clean up the current crop, which is why you see so many new Cannas on the market. That said, there are still some infected bulbs around. Symptoms of infection are yellowish and/or brown streaks that run up the leaves. Check all plants before you buy them. If you discover them in your garden dig the infected bulbs and throw them in the trash. This virus can travel to other cannas in your garden. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
