Question From: H. Jarvis - MISSOURI
Q: Oak gall on 20 yr old oaks. More than usual my entire street infested. Do you suggest fertilizer to try to keep them healthy? If so what and when, it's already June am I too late?
A: Fertilizing will have no effect on oak leaf gall. There is nothing to be done at this time except keeping the trees watered. Fertilizing should be done in late winter. I suggest you get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. Pruning red and white oaks in warm weather makes them vulnerable to the dreaded oak wilt disease that can kill a red oak in a matter of weeks. To find a certified arborist in your area go to tcia.org and enter your zipcode. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
