Question From: T. W. - OHIO
Q: hi, i am doing a science project on lettuce depth. do you know anything that could help me? Also do you know anything about Bibb lettuce? that is the kind i will grow. i will grow them in containers. Thank you very much!
A:
The seeds of Bibb Lettuce should be planted 1/4 inch deep in the soil. I presoak my seed overnight in water to help it sprout faster. Be sure to thin out the seedlings so the plants will grow to proper size. Thinning by cutting off the tops of the seedlings will prevent damaging the roots. Be sure to keep the soil moist at all times. Fertilize with fish emulsion after the second set of leaves forms. Happy Yardening, Nancy
