Question From: Tempe, Arizona, United States
Q: Dear Nancy, Help....we have a yard full of dichondra.. We live in the Phoenix, AZ area. The basic lawn is bermuda grass with some type of hybrid grass thrown in. But the invasive dicchondra has taken over. What to do? Many thanks.
A: Well, you could switch from grass to dichondra. If you have over 40 percent dichondra your best bet is to use a glyphosate based herbicide, such as Roundup, to kill out the entire lawn and start all over again. If not, go to your local independent garden center and ask for an herbicide that will kill the dichondra, but not harm the grasses. I live in Michigan and we plant cold weather grasses. Be sure to follow the package directions to the letter. Be aware that Roundup will damage or kill any plant, including shrubs and trees whose leaves come in contact with it, so use it with great care. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
