Q: We pruned back our knockout rosebushes in the fall, as we always have. This spring, there is only new growth at the roots. In the past we have had growth on the stems. Is it ok to cut the stems to the bottom and let the bushes reform from the new growth at the roots? Do we need to replace these bushes?
A: Ki, Fall pruning of roses is not recommended because of excessive winter kill. Your roses grow on their own roots so will regrow and be fine. Feed them once a month with Rose Tone by Espoma until the middle of August. Also keep them well watered.
