Question From: T. Seem - Risingsun, Ohio, United States
Q: We just built a house in the last year and a half. The lawn was the last item put in. We had this hired out. Not sure what they planted!!?? When it 1'st came up it was beautiful with a nice green color. It was put in late fall of 2012. It filled in with no bare spots. Now it's july 2013 and the grass looks terrible. It is full of hard, yellow stem looking things mixed with what looks like dormant grass. Hardly any green except close to the house. Do you have any idea what I could be dealing with Nancy? Would appreciate any help. Thank You, Terry--new yard guy!!
A: The best time to seed a lawn is in late August and early September. Lawns seeded too late in the season do not have time to harden off, so it may have gotten off to a bad start. I suggest you start all over following the information for seeding at Yardener.com. If you are also considering sod here's a link to some information: Seed Vs Sod . Happy Yardening, Nancy.
