Question From: Woodmere, New York, United States
Q: Re: Schip Cherry Laurel hedge - brown spots on leaves (planted about 3 months ago) Over the summer yellow leaves appeared regularly in random spots on the bushes which I removed w/o concern. However, within the past 2 wks some of the leaves have dev irregular shaped brown patches, some of these patches look like an invader has eaten away part of the leaf, some of the leaves are w/brown patches but intact. This quickly dev along the row of 10 bushes. The gardener will address this but I want to be sure he has id'd the problem correctly! TY!
A: You may have more than one problem. Take samples of the damage to an independent garden center or nursery that sells these plants for an accurate ID and methods of controls. If the hedge is large and valuable I would enlist the services a certified arborist. Professionals have access to chemicals and tools not available to homeowners. To find an arborist in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zipcode. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
