Magnolia Trees Have Leaves That Turn Brown In Spring

Question From: N. Cleary - Brentwood, Tennessee, United States
Q: Every spring my magnolia trees have leaves that turn brown. The tree finally begins to look good again about June. We have not had a cold winter in a couple of years. I read somewhere that there was an insect that infests the tree and could be controlled by spraying the tree with something ( neem oil ?). What do you recommend. I live in Nashville,TN

A: I recommend you get an onsite inspection from a professional, a certified arborist. The problem may be caused by insects or disease and timing of treatment as well as the right product is key to correcting the problem. To find a professional in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
