Question From: J. Sabine - Dearborn, Michigan, United States
Q: I have 2 Mimosa tree in my back yard that are about 25 feet tall. They are thinning out at the bottom. I was told that if I cut off about 3 feet off the top branches it will spur new growth at the bottom. I thought I lost both trees after last years polar Vortex as they did not start to bud until late May. but both came back except for lots of lower branches, which I cut off. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you Jim Sabine
A:
Jim, I am not a trained tree doctor and am not familiar with the care of mimosa trees. If these were my trees I would have an onsite inspection from a certified arborist and have them pruned in March. To find a professional in your area go to www.tcia.org.
