New Buds At Top Of Spruce Tree Have Turned Brown

Question From: G. Roosevelt - Wilson, Wyoming, United States
Q: New buds and top of a very large spruce tree (maybe 35 feet in northern Wyoming) have turned brown. Bottom portion is very healthy with nice lime green buds. Tree is sprayed by professionals regulary; could they not have prayed high enough? Could having tree professionally strung with lights last year have done something? Any ideas? What shall I do next? Should I call an arborist.

A: The lights should not be an issue. Lack of water may be. Dying tips are not a good sign. I would get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy

Comment: Thank you, Nancy, for your reply to my question. What a great service. So nice to have found out about you and so nice that you take your time to answer questions. I was getting scared, so I did have an arborist come and he said it was pollen pods or pollen pockets, one or the other, I can't remember! Perfectly normal, he said, and a much more abundant pollen year than usual. Thank you again. Gayle
