Q: My violets need help! in a bed in front of my house look absolutely horrible. The backside is dead and dried up -I can’t lose these. They somewhat did this last year but then this spring they recovered and were beautiful but now it’s just happened again overnight.

A: Looks like chemical damage to me. Did you use a chemical to clean the cement. If so, irrigate the area with a couple inches of water. to wash the chemicals through the soil. Do not let the area dry out over the summer.. Sprinkle an inch or so of good quality compost on the surface of the soil. Be patient and don't fertilize until new growth has emerged. Then use an organic slow release fertilizer such as Espoma Plant Tone. Good Luck Nancy and Happy Yardening
