Question From: P. Greven - WISCONSIN
Q: I have a large potted begonia I purchased about about two weeks ago. We have been experiencing extreme heat, humidity and rain for the last week, and I noticed large white areas on many of the leaves yesterday. I read that the humidity and changing temps can affect begonias. Besides moving it out of the rain, removing the leaves what can I do? I presume it’s a fungal problem? Is there an inexpensive home remedy I can use? Or do you recommend a commercial product? Will it spread to other plants if I move it indoors?
A: Allow the soil to dry down so the top inch or so is dry to the touch. Take photos of the plant and samples of infected leaves to an independent garden center for an accurate diagnosis and method of control. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
