Question From: T. Young - Arvada, Colorado, United States
Q: I have a pussy willow that was attacked by black beetles last May, and this year I noticed many of the tender new branches are not green, but yellow with some bumpy brownish zones. Some branches still have some green, others none at all. Can you help me understand what this is and how to help? Thank you!
A: The first and second year growth of willows turn color in winter. They darken in spring. Older growth does not color up in winter. Keep an eye on the bumpy brownish zones. That may be nothing, I'd take a sample in to you local independent garden center that sells shrubs for an ID. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
