Q: Besides the Andromeda plant, I also have a problem with my Rhododendron. This is a relatively new plant...just a year old, but already showing disease. I have 200 foot of property so I have quite a large garden area and these are the only two plants that seem to have problems. Please see attached photos. Looks like some bites on a few leaves and a white powdery substance on other leaves. What is the problem and how do I cure it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Notched leaves indicates root weevils are feeding on the plant. The white powder is caused by powdery mildew. The plant is not happy. It is an understory plant and should be in part shade. Also like moist organic rich soil. Actinovate is a good fungicide that is environmentally friendly. Because root weevils feed on both roots and leaves I suggest you use a systemic pesticide listed for root weevils. Be sure to keep the shrub watered and mulch it with 3 to 4 inches of organic material. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
