Question From: J. Avery - Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States
Q: My Shasta daisies died from a worm that burrowed into the stems. I found a worm in the stem and evidence it was chewing away inside the stem. This even killed all the roots and I went from 3 huge pods to none. I would like to replant but I noticed the same thing might be happening to my black eyed Susans
A: Your best bet is a systemic pesticide listed for use on perennials. Bayer has a new one containing the active ingredient flupyradifurone that is said to be safe for bees. An older product will contain Merit. A good local independent garden center will be able to advise you. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
