Question From: Fishers, Indiana, United States
Q: I just bought some a pot of shasta daisies and the leaves have suddenly drooped quite a bit. I haven't had a chance to plant them yet. If I remove the plant from the pot and let the roots dry out a little, will the plant revive?
A: The leaves of plants that have been overwatered usually turn yellow and slowly limp. I'm curious as to the condition of the plant when you bought it and why you think it is overwatered. Sudden collapse is usually the result of the plant drying out. That said if the plant is waterlogged, carefully remove all the soil from the roots and wash them with clear water. Then repot the plant in fresh moist potting soil that contains a lot of perlite. I'd keep the plant in a protected area for a few days and water it when the surface of the soil feels dry.
