Question From: Omaha, Nebraska, United States
Q: What is the diameter of a bur oak trunk at maturation? I have a rather narrow slice of land between my driveway and the neighbors yard and would like to put a bur oak in that spot but wonder if it will eventually push into the driveway and be too large for the space.
A: Even if the diameter of the trunk will "fit" it's the roots you should be concerned with. The root structure will eventually reach twice the width of the leaf canopy. The diameter may reach 80 inches or more, but these trees rarely grow to their maximum in an urban setting. I suggest you look for another tree. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
