Q: Someone asked you this. But you said you didn't understand the question. It's not really a gardening question. If a carrot has a split in it, can it be eaten? It's a harvesting question. Or buying at the store question. Could there be a pesticide or some other dangerous substance in the split. Have ever seen a split carrot?
A: If the carrot was home grown - that is, in my garden I would eat it. I do not use any chemicals in my gardens. However, if I bought it from the store I would not. Splits in carrots are not all that unusual. They are caused by excess water, The veg grows too fast for it's skin. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
