Should Planted Tulip Bulbs Be Replanted Or Stored When They Must Be Moved

Question From: E. Chiappetta - MICHIGAN
Q: We are having a dead ornamental tree replaced this week. There are tulips in bloom planted around its base. I can harvest the blooms, but what is the best way to handle the green leaves attached to the bulbs? Replant immediately and let them die off, or store them as is until fall? Thanks! PS I always enjoy your talks at the nurseries in the spring!

A:

If you can, replant them in an area that will not get watered too much over the summer. Tulips are iffy when it comes to overwintering. I treat them as annuals. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
