Question From: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States
Q: I have trouble with lacy leaves. I replaced one coleus and now appears on my ground cover (I think it’s Deadnettle.) I’ve seen bigger holes in my hosta leaves that I think are snails and they stopped getting worse as i’ve been treating for that. What animal do you think is causing the small holes? The small holes are the size of bb’s in the deadnettle.
A: You have slugs. They feed at night so get that flashlight out and go hunting after dark. I have had success with Iron Phosphate, such as Sluggo. You have to continue to use it all season long. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
Comment: I have snails that make bigger holes and i’m controlling them with a snail bait. I assume these small holes are made by flea beetles. Now I’m dusting with Sevin. Is that likely?
Response: My guess is earwigs. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
