Question From: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Q: Hi Nancy, My question is I have cotoneaster bushes around my yard and they look beautiful. Now I found some of the branches turned brown and die. I am very worried and don't know what to do to stop them. Would you please help me?
A: Kally, I suggest you take one of the dead branches to your local garden center or nursery of an I. D. If you see no damage from bugs, I think the problem may be fireblight. First remove all dead branches. Be sure to clean your pruner or lopper blades with rubbing alcohol after every cut. If the branches have raised bumps you can flick off with your nail you have scale. You could have both. Ask for the appropriate product. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
