Question From: G. MacNeill - Germantown, Maryland, United States
Q: I have a hanging basket with a strawberry plant. The strawberries on the vine are looking wrinkled. The leaves are fine, but the fruit itself is wrinkled. What causes that? Also my first strawberry was tart and somewhat bland. What can I do for sweeter tasting berries
A: Growing strawberries in containers is a high maintenance operation. The soil must be kept moist at all times, but overwatering will effect the flavor of the the berries. Fertilizing is also and issue. I don't grow hanging baskets for these reasons. I would check with the garden center that sold you the hanging basket. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
