Question From: Columbia, Missouri, United States
Q: Hello, I recently planted 3 viburnums (popcorn variety) and am noticing that older foliage has brown leaf margins and some have yellowing between leaf veins. Eventually, the leaves will curl and dry. A nurseryman told me that thi is typical for this variety. To me, it seems like a nutrient deficiency. What do you think it is?
A: Sounds to me like a watering issue. Newly planted shrubs need to be watered almost daily when the weather is hot and dry. Give them 5 gallons a day at the root ball for a couple of weeks and then taper off to twice a week. The rootball should be kept moist at all times. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
