Question From: L. Pentico - Michigan, United States
Q: I noticed what appears to be black grains..almost like someone sprinkled pepper over the top of one weigela bush. About three clumps of flowers were infected. I cannot find any reference to this with weigelas. Is it a fungi, a tiny bug or what? Should I be concerned? I cut off those branches just in case.
A: Invest in a good magnifying glass to inspect leaves for problems. They are available at craft stores. I had a larvae of viburnum beetle attack my shrubs. In its infancy I was unable to tell what it was. The magnifying made the difference. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
