Question From: Golconda, Illinois, United States
Q: My Weigelia has lost its leaves but parts of it are still in bloom , it is just coming to the end of its flowering season . Last winter was very wet ,could that be the reason ? .I have noticed tiny shoots coming from ground level . Will I cut the shrub back and hope for the best
A: Sounds like root rot, the result of roots sitting in wet soil. Poor drainage is the issue. You can try cutting the shrub back, but that will not improve the drainage. A raised bed is one solution. Soil improvement is another. Moving the shrubs location is another. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
