Q: What is the difference between Neem Oil and Neem Oil Soap Spray ? I live in Thailand and can get Neem Oil but have never seen Neem Oil Soap Spray. Can I simply add a detergent soap to the Neem oil I have and apply it normally ? Many thanks, Bob
A: Bob, I am not familiar with Neem oil soap spray mixed with insecticidal soap. Insecticidal soap is made up of fatty acids and is not the same as dish soap. Dish soap - regular formula Dawn is what I use, is often added to oil based products to act as a spreader sticker. The recipe from the Orchid Society is as follows: Mix 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of neem oil and 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of a gentle, plant-safe liquid dish soap (as a spreader and sticker for the oil) to 1 quart (900 ml) of warm water, or 4 teaspoons (20 ml) of neem oil and 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of liquid dish soap to 1 gallon (3800 ml) of water. I would do a test on the plants before using it. Also, do not apply it when the sun is out or when lights are on when growing indoors as it may burn the plants. I find it best to use it at sundown. Be sure to hit the undersides of the leaves. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
