Question From: C. Lafer - Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, United States
Q: We have a cottage in northern Michigan. The soil is basically sand. What kind of plants /flowers, if any, will grow in this soil? I would love to grow lavender but don't want to waste money if lavender won't grow. I've transplanted some plants from my home garden with little success. The area that I would l like to grow flowers or plants in gets plenty of sun.
A: You should visit a greenhouse or nursery in the area your planning to garden in to get advice on what grows well there. Lavander will grow in sandy soil, but your zone is probably too cold. That is why I suggest you get advice from local growers. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
