Q: I HAVE A MOUNTAIN ASH TREE THAT THE WOODPECKERS HAVE PECKED HOLES (LOTS) INTO THE TRUNK OF THE TREE. WILL THIS KILL MY TREE?
A: It could. The holes are opening for disease and insects and too many holes may actually girdle the tree. Dressing the holes with any kind of tree paint is not recommend as it can result in rot. Wrapping the tree trunk with tree tape or a temporary cover of hardware cloth is suggested. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
