Question From: Lodi, Wisconsin, United States
Q: I have a young willow bush, around 1-2 years old, and it has been healthy up until lately. The leaves have been either defoliated by Japaneses Beatles of the other leaves have pink to red bumps all over it. I got rid of the Beatles, but what is the pink bumps and what would you suggest to get rid of them? The weather here has been very hot(humid) and rainy the last few days.
A: The bumps are called galls, caused by the feeding of a saw fly. they don't hurt the shrub. A good cleanup will help lessen the damage. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
