Q: We have young rose buds that look as if they have been covered with white paint. The stems supporting these buds are a transparent white, looking as if they are severely anemic. How do we treat this and correct the problem?
A: If it's a powdery substance you have powdery mildew. Spray with a fungicide in the morning. Be sure to hit the undersides of the leaves. If the actual bud has lost color, it's probably from thrips. Aza Max is a good insecticide that is OMRI listed and environmentally friendly. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
