Question From: C. Askins - Austin, Texas, United States
Q: Hi Nancy! We have white spiders on our zinnias. Not sure what the insect is, but I have attached a photo. Our zinnias have brown spots on the leaves and I am wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent this. They are placed in direct sunlight. Thanks so much! Courtney

A: You are correct - those little white wonders are spiders, but they are not the cause of the spots on the zinnia leaves. Spiders eat bugs and bug eggs. They are good guys. You plants probably have a form of fungal leaf spot. Spraying them every 7 to 14 days with a fungicide may control it. Bonide makes several kinds that will be labeled for use on flowers. I recommend you go to an independent garden center for advice. Do be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves and read the entire label before use. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
